Oh, what a strange and magical journey I have been on these past few months at CCS. From the awe-inspiring cliffs of the shelves in my room all the way to the firey vents of my kitchen to the tepid pools of water in the clogged bathtub, I have traversed my dorm room many, many times because I did not leave it often. I know all of it's secrets, from the phallus drawn with glue on the side of the kitchen shelves to the many phalluses in ballpoint pen drawn on the undersides of my bedroom shelves. Yes, in my quest to unravel the mysteries of the universe I've discovered a lot of hidden dick drawings.
This one's a drawing of me, perhaps daring to leave my dorm? What exciting adventures are in store for me? Tune in next week to never find out.
Monster Pulse fanart! Magnolia Porter is an upstanding citizen and makes some pretty great comics.
And these two are speedpaints. The first one from a photo I regrettably don't have credit for, and the second from a photo I took in high school.

I did an illustration of the story I wrote for my short story class.
I bury everything I own. My house is a bleached skeleton, and I am the scavenger bird, picking every last bit of carrion from the ribs. I began with a lamp. It was the light I read by, but when I no longer wanted to read I couldn't stand the sight of it, so I unplugged it, took it to the back yard, and buried it. The weight of the dirt on the end of my shovel felt so good there in the darkness that when I was done, I went back inside to fetch the books I no longer wanted to read, and I buried those too. The smell of fresh earth was like a drug. I buried my pots and pans 4 feet deep, so I wouldn't be tempted to dig them back up. I buried my shoes and my dresses. I buried the wide maternity ones separately, with the unworn blue baby clothes. I buried my chairs. I buried my photos.
I spent every night for the better part of 3 weeks burying my possessions and slept through the days. I did not discriminate; the gold necklace left to me by my grandmother went in the ground just like the salt and pepper shakers shaped like smiling poodles.

Hey there True Believers!
Haven't posted in a while, it's true. I spent most of my summer just sketching for fun and "developing my style," whatever that means.
A rather toothy self portrait speed paint.
I've been working on writing a story. This is the (still nameless) main character.
My favorite show, Community, will be returning in a few weeks! I can't wait.

Another school year done, only one left. I'm concerned about the pace at which time seems to be slipping away from me.
Anyways, this painting was done in my free time. In my Visual Culture class we were talking about how the two greatest pleasures of cinema were scopophilia and narcissism, and it fit what I was trying to say with this piece perfectly. It's a little dark, but I'm really drawn to mysterious imagery and I want to incorporate that more in my illustration.
This is significantly happier! A circus illustration from my awesome children's book illustration class. I'm sad it's finished. I will miss salad days.
There are a few other things I could post, but I think I'll save them for another day.

Two speedpaints. In general, when doing speedpaints I only wanted to use reference that I shot myself. However, I took neither of the photos I used for reference here. The first is from felixdeon@deviantart (nsfw), and the second is from a very dear friend of mine- google.
Donald Glover is one of my favorite actors/comedians/all around talented people. His face is really expressive and fun to draw.
I am an enormous nerd, what else is new? These are younger versions of characters from Andrew Hussie's Homestuck, which has hit a manic popularity streak on the internet lately that confuses and frightens me.
"And he was told to stay and guard the door and more. Loyalty's his fate."
An illustration of the fantastic Miles Kurosky song "Dog in the Burning Building," which in my opinion has one of the greatest music videos I've ever seen. (Granted, my standards are bright colors, cool animation, and puppets.) I cannot stop listening to his album The Desert of Shallow Effects lately. It's been out for a whole year and I'm kicking myself that I didn't find it sooner. It's not quite as good as Beulah's album "The Coast is Never Clear" and it took a few listens to sink in, but now that it has it's all I want to listen to. (I do this with albums a lot.)

Putting together a portfolio has made me realize I'm not as confident with my digital painting as I wish I was or thought I was, so I decided to start practicing by doing speed paints. The bottom one was done first- it's my brother, Sam. The top one is my Jordanian brother Rakan, who has been staying with my family this year. I find that my go-to subject matter tends to be my family. (Maybe that's just because I already have so many pictures of them.)
